A fairly interesting weekend all round. Started early, taking Judy down to Williamsburg to hawk raffle tickets for her quilt guild. This year's raffle quilt is really gorgeous, and those tickets move pretty well.

I'm beginning to realize that quilters probably make up a larger subculture than SF/Fantasy fandom, which is disconcerting. They divided their activities at this commercial show/convention among 4 hotels, and kept several greyhound-sized shuttle busses running between them on 20 -minute schedules. And most of the time the busses were full when they pulled out.

Two of the Friendship Star guild members got down early and secured the best high-traffic spot to set up the raffle table, with the quilt prominently displayed behind. There were no pre-assigned locations, so it was literally first-come, best served. The only drawback to the spot was that it was close to the front entrance, and we ate a lot more stinking bus exhaust than anyone would want. By Saturday afternoon, I had developed some confidence and patter, and was actually enjoying getting very busy ladies to stop bustling and part with some of their money.

Sunday we went to the Oscar viewing party put on by [livejournal.com profile] fairestcat and [livejournal.com profile] norabombay. A longish drive, but dinner and dessert make a powerful draw. I'm not much of a media fan, but have seen a few movies this year, and the pomp and glitter are always entertaining. Watching the show in a group with strong preferences is much more fun than doing it alone. Met briefly two VA local LJ people, [livejournal.com profile] trollprincess and [livejournal.com profile] kinetikatrue. Would have liked to chat a bit longer, had there not been a 45 minute drive ahead of us. Kat has our daughter [livejournal.com profile] weyrlady and several old high school classmates on her friends list, which is kind of intriguing. I suspect that various quakers comprise the intersection, but would be interested in tying that down, just to satisfy my curiousity. Bryn Mawr looks like becoming another point of intersection, and a well-chosen one. Always interested in widening the class of carpool candidates. For obvious reasons, we get up there a lot.

Paid the price this morning, moving very slowly in a fog. But at least we made it to work, which is more than some folks managed.
